ABOUT ION
ION Media Networks, Inc. owns and operates the largest U.S. broadcast television station group and ION Television, the country’s only independent broadcast television network. The Company owns 59 of its 60 full-power broadcast television stations, including stations in each of the top 20 U.S. markets and 39 of the top 50.
ION Media Networks is moving television forward in three dimensions: broadcasting, multicasting and datacasting. Completed digital broadcast facility upgrades allow the Company to provide a broadband platform using enhanced digital terrestrial spectrum capacity. In addition to delivering the main television network, this capacity is used to multicast multiple, new, over-the-air digital networks, as well as to datacast non-television content and information.
ION Media Networks provides network programming seven-days-per-week, 24-hours-per-day to over 94 million homes in the U.S. through its television station group, as well as cable and satellite distribution. The Company’s flagship network, ION Television, features a broad “Positively Entertaining” mix of hit television series, theatrical and made-for-television movies, and specials.
ION Television reaches a growing, affluent, culturally influential and digitally-connected audience with compelling programming. Weeknight prime time is currently populated with hit TV programs provided by some of the leading content suppliers, including CBS Television, NBC Universal, RHI Entertainment, Sony Pictures Television, Twentieth Television and Warner Bros., among others.
Using its digital multicasting capability, ION Media Networks has launched several new digital TV brands, including qubo, a television and multimedia network for children formed in partnership with several leading media and entertainment companies, and ION Life, the country’s first multicast network dedicated to active living and personal growth.
In February 2007, ION Media Networks launched Open Mobile Ventures Corporation (OMVION), a business unit focused on the research and development of portable, mobile and out-of-home transmission technology using over-the-air digital television spectrum. The Company believes broadcast spectrum has superior technical and economic characteristics that may make it eligible for delivering content to mobile devices.
